Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All minor. Easy to step over
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some spots on Burnt Mountain and Twin Brook trails require trimming. The new growth in the cut over sections on the Twin Brook Trail are extending branches into the pathway. One small birch across Twin Brook Trail (about 3 or 4 inch diameter). Easy to get by for now.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Ticks! I had from 8 to 10 ticks on my pants when I finished the hike. There was grass growing on the lower section of the Burnt Meadow Trail that most likely harbored the ticks. Mosquitos were buzzing about.

Comments
Comments: The trails were surprisingly dry after all the recent rains.
The pathway for the Stone Mountain Trail blends in with the adjacent open woodlands in many spots. One must be observant of the light blue blazes as the trail has many switchbacks.
I ascended via the Burnt Meadow Mountain trail. Once at the summit continue westerly in the open to find the start of the Twin Brook Trail that drops off to the left with a decent size cairn just below the summit ridge.
Nice views south and east. The views west toward the White Mountains were limited due to the clouds. I could see Mt Chocorua and Moat Mountain at times.
On Stone Mountain there are two side trails; one leads slightly downhill a short distance to the south outlook and the other is a longer path to a west outlook ending at a cairn.
I met some other hikers. One originally from Salt Lake City and a couple from Washington DC.
