Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One - easy rock hop. And a small step over.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Good sign on the side of 113. Blazing in upper portion is good. Maybe a few more in the lower section (after the water crossing) would be good. Some blowdowns, to be expected after the winter and no access. Thanks Chatham Trails Association.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Be cautious on the steep areas and overlooks.
Bugs
Bugs: Not as bad as they could have been, thanks to the breeze.

Comments
Comments: Did this less than 48 hours after Rt. 113 opened. Not a trail that would be easily accessed while the road is closed, so I think we may have been the first since last fall to hike here. And with the snowmelt and the the rains that followed, the many leaves did not help. Trail in a few places was hard for me to discern (not Prema, she has great trail eyes) and on the way down I slipped and took a nasty spill ( a very steep 20+ feet). A suggestion for the Ten Essential list; a second pair of glasses! I always carry a pair on the trail. Didn't lose the present ones, but the frames are all twisted (fortunately still under warrantee). a suggested nickname for hikes like this - Free Osteoporosis Screening - no insurance needed, because no bones were busted!

No one likes a sad hiking report, so I'll end with the good stuff. There are two beautiful overlooks in the higher section. Ironically, the one with the maple in the way has a better view, just slide a little to the left and it really opens up. Flowers were great - bunch berries are starting to bloom. If you seek solitude, this is a good one.
