Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Cadillac Mountain , ME
Trails
Trails: Kebo Brook Trail, Gorge Path, Summit Loop, Cadillac North Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, April 21, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Although Gaia shows the Kebo Mtn Trail starting on Paradise Hill Rd, this road is actually part of Park Loop Rd. As the guidebook mentions, parking is limited here and isn't allowed in summer/fall so they recommend taking the bus and getting dropped off here. On this day, there were just a few cars in the parking spots on either side of the road, leaving room for a few more.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Gorge Path crosses over and walks through the brook quite a bit. All crossings were rock hoppable but this might be a trail to avoid in high water.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trail signs were intact. There were two stepover/straddler blowdowns on Gorge Path: one just a couple minutes south of where it crosses Park Loop Rd and the next 5-10mins south of that. There may have been some other blowdowns as well that I don't recall. I'm pretty sure that all trails were blazed in blue. Very well trodden and easy to follow except perhaps where the trail is above tree line and/or scrambles over rocks or ledges.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The section of Gorge Path between A. Murray Young Path and the summit involves some boulder scrambling and would not be appropriate for many dogs. I don't believe I saw any.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: I drove up to stay in Ellsworth for a couple of days Friday to do some redlining in the area over the weekend and this was my first hike and only hike Friday afternoon. I completed the loop clockwise which means you actually descend on Kebo Brook Trail to Gorge Path. Gorge Path starts off very gentle, but actually has a bit of a wild feel to it as you trudge up and through the brook often times higher up, and becomes steadily steeper although with great stone steps. The portion that ascends to the summit actually involves some boulder scrambling before some easier ledge scrambling. Much, much harder than the trail down low would have you think. Great views.

When I reached the summit area, I meticulously redlined the entire summit area. I had it to myself... good time to walk back and forth and in circles redlining; if anyone was up there they'd probably think I was a creep, lol! I had fun reading all the signs and informational panels. Cadillac North Ridge Trail was also a treat. Overall the mud wasn't bad at all considering the time of year adn was pretty sparse but there were still spots I avoided stepping in, often in the soil in between ledge on Cadillac North Ridge Trail. Lots of wet rock on Gorge Path obviously too.
