???? Hedgehog Mountain, Freeport (308')
???? Pisgah Hill, New Gloucester (381')
It's that time of year again, time to break out the hiking boots! Completely by coincidence, my first spring hikes of the past 3 years have all been on March 30th. We headed south to find some hikes in the Maine Mountain Guide which I had yet to complete and were likely to have minimal snow.
Our second hike of the day was on Pisgah Hill in New Gloucester. The first section of trail still had significant snow and ice, so microspikes were very helpful. After the loop split, there was much less snow, and spikes were not needed. The loop is quite easy and has various points of interest, including an area of open ledges and an area where tailings from an old quarry have been made into sculptures.
It was a great day to be out, and we were treated to sunny skies and good temperatures for hiking! |
