Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Devil’s Head Access Rd was not plowed and had some snow on it. At other points, it’s bare pavement. I got down it fine in FWD but would recommend snow tires. Then again, after today, all the snow should be gone.

Comments
Comments: I believe the Devil’s Head Trail was blazed in yellow but not certain. Shoreline Bliffs Trail definitely was. Trail jcts are signed.

My 2nd full-day of my mini redlining vacation in Ellsworth. Third hike of the day brought my new friend and I to Devil’s Head. We completed the loop contour-clockwise as the guidebook describes, saving the road walk for last. No need for traction or snowshoes. Snow depth was non-existent to minimal. Noting the Shoreline Bluffs Trail on the other side and on Gaia, and knowing that the next edition of the MMG will have quite a bit added to it, we hiked that back to the car instead of the road. There are some other trails or spurs not shown on Gaia or their maps that are on there. We stuck to the main trail though. Gaia has it in the correct place except for the very end where it cut to the road a little quicker (further to the north). The trail, while very well blazed in yellow, had absolutely no trail corridor at times as it paralleled, then approached the road. Darkness gaining on us may have had something to do with this too though.

Once back at the car, we dropped our packs then walked the road walk portion as it would appear to be needed for redlining. Hiking the area in this manner gave 3.25mi with almost 400ft of gain, taking 1.75hrs to complete at a leisurely pace.
