Trails
Trails: Abol Trail, Hunt Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, June 21, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Day Use Parking for Abol Trail holds about a dozen vehicles. No sign of overflow parking, check with a ranger. Never been to BSP before? Check out their website for info on gate times, parking reservations, and parking fees. Not a good idea to arrive here and expect entry without making arrangements prior to arrival.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing major, some minor rock-hopping.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Once above treeline the blue blazes become less frequent, the result being several stretches where the trail is difficult to follow. Lots of pea gravel.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Not welcome at Baxter.
Bugs
Bugs: Some in the parking lot, not too bad below tree line and on the exposed sections. But on the summit: you know those little bugs that dive bomb your ears, eyes, and nose? They were everywhere!

Comments
Comments: Stunning views today from the summit!

Abol Trail (some sources call this Abol Stream Trail) is billed as the shortest trail to the summit but it may not be the fastest! Quite a lot of scrambling above treeline and in many sections very difficult to follow.

Met a young man, Shroom?, on his descent who had just finished the AT! Congrats! I expected to meet more through-hikers but he was the only one.
