This hike was just under 2 miles round-trip. The heavily eroded trail makes a direct shot to the summit, largely on rock slab. It only took 15 minutes to reach the summit, where there are a plethora of communication towers and power lines. There were also quite a few people, including a large group on ATVs and side-by-sides who drove up the mountain. It's a less than attractive summit, although I did find the old (off limits) fire tower interesting. I made my way over to the south summit, which I had to myself for a bit. The south summit also has far better views than the main summit. After the motorized vehicles started to head towards the south summit, I decided to make my way down. Between the many people, motorized vehicles, developed summit, and heavily eroded trail, this was my least favorite hike of the day, even though the views were the most extensive. |
