Trails
Trails: Evergreen Link Trail, Cold Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, April 23, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked with permission from the innkeepers at the Evergreen Inn. Park at the end furthest from the inn so guests can park closest to the lodge. The parking area I used two years ago on the side road off Mountain Road had two private property signs at the entrance, so I did not use it. There was no sign for the Evergreen Inn at the intersection of Adams Road and Mountain Road. There were signs for the inn on route 5 and the turn off West Stoneham Road to Adams Road.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings are easy on rocks. Only small brooks
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No trail signs at the start of the Evergreen Link Trail at Mountain Road. One good sized treefall across the Evergreen Link trail a short distance from the junction with the Cold Brook Trail. The tree is about a foot and a half diameter. The tree is 2.5 to 3 feet above the ground. One can either duck low or straddle the tree using a dirt mound.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs
Bugs
Bugs: A few flying insects that were not bothersome

Comments
Comments: I was able to easily ascend to the summit in bare boots. The snow/frozen slush predominates somewhere between 2,300' and 2,500'. Even at these higher elevations there are spots of bare ground or ledge. The snow was firm today, so the snowshoes remained on my back. There was more snow on this trail in early May 2020 than today. Some standing water and mud on the trail in low spots between the ledges. Waterproof boots and gaiters kept the feet dry. The summit ledges are dry. The maximum snow depth was probably 1.5' with much of the cover of lesser depth. I used the microspikes for the descent in the snow zone but probably could have bare booted it. Hikers that ascended from Brickett Place stated that the route 113 gate is now open.
Met a couple from Sumner ME, a mom and daughter from Poland ME, and two guys from RI & MA.
Great views of Kezar Lake from the open ledges and excellent views of the Baldfaces, Carter-Moriah range, and snowy Mt Washington from Speckled Mountain.
