This hike was only about 2 miles round-trip, but the viewpoints offered similar views to those on Long Mountain. The trail up was much steeper, and also less busy. I only ended up seeing one other person on this hike. I had lunch at the uppermost of the three viewpoints, before heading around the Rock Castle Loop. The Rock Castle was a super unique place to explore. It's a jumble of large boulders which broke off from the nearby cliff, the largest of which is quite tall and narrow. There is a decent sized cave system underneath the rocks, and it is also possible to climb to the extremely precarious and narrow top of the Rock Castle. Although the views were similar to Long, the lack of crowds and unique rock formation made this a preferable hike. |
