Comments
Comments: This is basically a PSA for anyone who is looking to do the Baldface loop that Charles Brook was, IMO, unsafe to cross at the standard crossing and at least a a hundred yards up and downstream. I was hoping that if I crossed early it would be solid, it wasn't. At the end of my hike I went down to Emerald Pool (don't bother) to find that it was not really looking good. However about 50 yds above the rocks that swimmers jump off I saw a large downed tree that appears to span the entire brook. That may be a solution. Otherwise Slippery brook and BCT were in great shape. I used snowshoes for the ascent from the Eastman junction until treeline but spikes would have worked. Lots of dry rock above the trees. Between skiers and hikers the trail was well consolidated. Of course that's all about to change tonight.
