We stayed at Daicey pond. If you are going to try and drag a sled in, do yourself a favor and just take the tote road. The stretch from foss and knowlton pond to Lost pond is aggravating. The stretch from lost pond to Daicey is so bony you will just consider leaving your gear there. Trail is well packed from Daicey to the tote road. I would recommend snowshoes to Abol campground and just ditch them at the rangers cabin. The trail up to Baxter is well packed and then mostly rocky above tree line. Baxter cutoff and the stretch on saddle up to Hamlin has some deep spots, but not worth carrying snowshoes for. |
