Comments
Comments: Julie picked me up at the Hostel of Maine at 9 am as planned and we hit the trail right away. We could hear the CVGC shooting trap all the way up to Cranberry Pond, I ran out and back to South Horn, it is a very short 2/10s and has an awesome views. We enjoyed sunny skies and good views on North Horn but as we summited West Peak geezs the clouds moved in and it got windy and cool. We knew rain was in the forecast. We could still see Flagstaff Lake on Avery but otherwise we were socked in big time. When we reached the Avery campsite we decided to keep going to Safford campsite while the trail was still dry. We filtered water in the box spring past the campsite on the trail. Down down down we went and Oh my I forgot about the giant boulders, super giants big Wow Factor starting just before the Safford Brook Trail intersection. Why the Safford campsight isn't on any of the signs but thankfully on the map, I don't know but we were glad to reach it. We set up our tents on a tiny flat spot sharing tent stakes on between us. We filtered water at the nice little brook and cooked supper and Wham here came the rain. Along with about a dozen thru hikers. There were tents set up everywhere by the fire ring on rocks and steep slopes! There is a widow maker above the tent platform so no one slept on it.
