Comments
Comments: Since we did not have a reservation for this trailhead, we got in line at 5am. We were the lucky winners of one of the 5 passes they reserve for folks like us. It rained this entire hike. The Chimney Pond trail numerous small deep puddles, running water and slippery rocks. Basin cuttoff was pretty eroded with lots of slippery roots. Hamlin Ridge trail was a boulder scramble the entire way with brief moments when you could walk upright. We climbed the ridge in the fog encountering many knobs before we reached the summit on the tablelands. From there to the top of the Saddle slide it was a boulder field. The lichen covered rocks were treacherous! It was a relief to get to the slide after that. Long, wet descent back to Chimney Pond and Roaring brook. Another Maine 4k! Very rewarding hike with Greg.
