It was a hot one today but this is one of my favorite loops in the area. Up the AT to the West peak there were areas of pretty significant mud which I just slogged through. The stone steps were all wet and there is running water on the slab portions of the trail. Just use care and you will be fine. The bog in the col between the peaks deserves its' own zip code. That thing is easily 2 feet deep. If you watch your footing on the logs and rocks and were a gymnast in a previous life, you will cross it with ease. The East peak was nice and grippy where the slab was dry and slick as all get out where it was wet. Just watch your footing. I just backtracked and then took the blue trail up to Table Rock. Again, plenty of mud and since my shoes were trashed already, I just walked right through it. I had this summit to myself as well, which left me wondering where all the hikers were today. I descended the orange trail which is in great shape and just all around fun. |
