Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail to Lookout Ledge was in rougher shape than previous years. Cleared some branches and minor blowdowns. Lower section was a bit eroded and it probably needs some brushing in a couple spots. Still, it is a nice trail with good footing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A dog would do fine with this hike and bushwhack
Bugs
Bugs: Some sporadic black flies and a couple early season deerflies. They were really not too bad. Did not need bug repellant.

Comments
Comments: I have done the trail to Lookout Ledge several times and decided to whack to the summit today. There were great views from Lookout Ledge, that included Black Brook Notch & surrounding peaks, the Grafton Notch high peaks, Presidential Range and the South Arm of Richardson Lake. It is a truly memorable view. The whack was almost due north (true north) from Lookout Ledge and was a short, but difficult 200+ foot, .3 mile ascent. The woods were thick, there were blowdowns galore and two or three small cliff sections. The summit was flat and heavily wooded. There is a peanut butter jar with a green lid at the summit high point. Could not get the jar open. I do know that hiker zporterColdRiverCampCook reported this hike/bushwhack on this website on June 15, 2018. Would have loved to have known if anyone signed the summit jar after that. My thanks to zporterColdRiverCampCook for giving me inspiration to whack to the summit and to my friend Rocket21, for providing this awesome hiking website resource.
