Success Pond Rd was open and passable by most/all vehicles from Gorham and from ME 26 via North Rd. York Pond Rd is blocked by boulders on Success Pond Rd side and has a bridge that is not car/truck worthy from the Route 26 side. |

Several large blowdowns on Wright Trail on the section above the tent site, two where the root ball completely blocks the trail. |

Early winter conditions. Ladder rungs in several areas may be difficult for dogs (they are on angled slabs, not vertical). Some icy areas/ledge scrambles may be difficult as well. Be mindful of snow most of the way (2-4"+). |

Goose Eye Mountain (North and East Peaks)
One set of new tracks out and back on the first part of Notch Trail. One set of old tracks on Mahoosuc Trail up to Full Goose. One or more sets of bear tracks (large) that kept crossing/following the Mahoosuc Trail and Wright Trail. Many small animal tracks (likely fox, rabbit, and rodents). Microspikes were necessary for most of the Mahoosuc Trail and the upper part of Wright Trail (above the tent site) with only a few areas where crampons could have been helpful but were not absolutely necessary. Ice axe could be handy but certainly not required yet. Snowshoes were not needed anywhere. Lower section of Wright Trail below the tent site was mostly snow free. Descending Wright Trail below the tent site we lost the trail just after the river crossing where it hits the logging road then appears to dip back to the river and cross back to the right (south) bank. The trail actually climbs up the bank to the left (north) and continues on a mostly flat logging road. We found the (very scenic and worthwhile) half mile loop trail (which was not well defined but not too difficult to follow) at the bottom of Wright Trail (upper junction is on the right when you first see the gorge while descending, lower junction is essentially at the trailhead, don't recall any signs). |
