Comments
Comments: Did my annual 12 mile loop going up AT over Bemis Mt. from the Bemis Road (Bemis Track) and down Bemis Stream Trail. Not sure I will be doing this again, however, as Bemis Stream Trail is in poor shape. It is blazed nicely, but is very muddy and has a lot of blowdowns. The deerflies were horrific below the upper Bemis Stream crossing. Thankfully, I carried my "Jolt" racket zapper, which disposed of about 30 of these annoying parasites. Decided not to take Bemis Stream Trail below the first log road intersection, as I had enough of the mud, blowdowns and bugs. Took the log road out to the Bemis Road, took a left and went back to my vehicle. The AT portion was in pretty decent shape, with major boot sucking mud just past the Peak 2 summit and past the main summit. It was all avoidable with care. Saw 6 people on the AT; all section hikers or thru-hikers. Saw nobody on the Bemis Stream Trail or log roads.
