Pleasant Mountain, Bald Peak Trail, (7 tenths mile to "Sue's Trail" split, thus a "Peak attempt")
Took this well packed trail this morning wearing crampons with temp in the 30's, so the snow was a little soft on the top only, for 3/10's mile up to Needle's Eye, but crisp thereafter. with very solid center "monorail" up the 7/10's mile to the "Sue's Way split. There was a post hole or two off to the sides of the trail. (Time was limited so didn't summit.) With temps falling below freezing tonight, this should continue to be great hiking trail conditions this afternoon, tomorrow (Sunday) and beyond. Saw one hiker in snow shoes who had just done the Sue's Way to North Ridge loop, who reported lots of post holes around that loop, around the top, by Shawnee Peak. |
