Comments
Comments: The Bigelows never fail to deliver, and did they ever on Friday. The valley was a fire of red, gold, and orange-some of the best foliage I have ever seen. It was 34 degrees when I started, and probably colder than that when I got to Bigelow Col; the tent platforms were heavily frosted, and the trees had a light frost. Breaking into the clear at the summit of Avery it was at least 10 degrees warmer immediately, with little to no wind. Talked to a thru-hiker for a while, then pushed to West, where it had gotten even warmer (only in the sun, it was still cold in the woods). Sat in the sun for a while, talked with another thru-hiker, then headed for the Horns. After killing so much time, it was about 1:30 before I got to South Horn; by now there was no wind and sitting in the sun it was probably 65. Met Joyce and Jill, killed about an hour at the summit chatting and admiring the view, then headed out in no real hurry to get home. Fantastic day.
