Much like a late March hike given the temps. Packed snow - wet/sticky on lower stretches. On switchbacks wet snow with lots of slush and a few bare spots with mud. A few pathces of ice - with traction easily crossed and without traction easily avoided. Above overlook - a mix - wet/sticky snow, slush with some water pools, exposed rock and a few patches of mud. Among the hikers I saw bare boots were the choice. I found that traction helped to avoid the slipping and sliding that those without seemed to experience. The warm temps led to some pools of water and spots of water running down the trail. With the warm temps and upcoming rain most if not all of the trail will be snow free - if not once temps drop below freezing trail will become iced over and more of a challenge. |
