 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Were able to drive 2 miles past the end of the pavement on Rapid Stream Road in a 2WD car (so roadwalk ended up only being a mile or so one way). 1-2" of snow on road. Could have made it to the bridge in hindsight, and to the upper logging road crossing with a 4WD. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Ice - Blue, Snow - Drifts, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Not yet fully or solidly bridged, but not a major issue. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns above the cabin, but otherwise in much better shape than a few years ago. Very well blazed below treeline. Some nasty sections between the logging roads have been rerouted onto better footing, though hobblebush is still sticking up. |

 | Comments: |
Minimal snow in the lower elevations - 1-4" from Rapid Stream Road to cabin. Wore snowshoes for the entire ascent, but found it to be very rough going due to rocks, etc. up the cabin - chose to descend with light traction below cabin. Cabin is still standing, though not in great shape. No sign of any use above cabin, thus trail breaking began. Snow depths increased to 6-12" between cabin and treeline. Plenty of rock exposed on the steeps in the scree fields, but were able to pick a way up and down with snow shoes. Wind blown snow on top of some blue ice. Much deeper drifts in the scrubby areas - waist deep in one place. Quite windy above treeline - full winter gear came out, despite relatively mild temperatures. Trip report link to be posted in a few days. |
