Comments
Comments: Above the small bridge (1 mile up) there is evidence of a significant amount of logging activity. The trail crosses over a number of logging roads/cuts but the trail is clearly marked and easy to follow thought this activity. The logging activity is very visible on one or both sides of the trail from this point to a few tenths of a mile below the summit - the trail in may places is in a thin width of wood between 2 large logging roads/cuts. For the last 3/4 of a mile or so the trail is basically a frozen stream bed. It starts with ice intermixed with small rocks and leaves, ledges mainly covered with ice and becomes solid ice up to several inches thick. There are numerous stretches which are completely covered in several inches of ice. For many of these stretches there are well developed paths in the woods off to the side of the trail. Light traction was sufficient for much of this stretch and where it might be problematic one has the option of paralleling the trail in the woods. This trail will be much easier with the coming of snow. On the summit - only traces of snow.

Given all of the logging activity the approach to the summit is not very visually appealing since the activity is easily seen from the trail. The ledges trail or Southwest ridge trail are much better alternatives.
