Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sign for Miles Notch Trail trailhead missing - small mowed parking area on left, somewhat worn path on right, on Hut Road. One could drive perhaps a mile up Cold Brook Trail due to recent logging (and good logging road) operations. We drove about 1/2 mile off the pavement and parked.

Comments
Comments: Cold Brook Trail was basically a roadwalk for much of the way prior to Evergreen Link - nice foliage. Patchy black ice started at the wilderness boundary - if you're careful, no traction needed. Dusting of snow starting around 2,000-2,500 feet. Red Rock Trail quite hard to follow in places on the ridge due to lack of blazes, open/grown in areas, etc. Other than stepping over blowdowns, very nice footing. A few muddy areas in cols, not completely frozen over yet. Very nice views just off the trail on Durgin and Red Rock, especially on cliffs just past Red Rock and prior to descent to Miles Notch. Miles Notch Trail was very tough to follow - few blazes, leaves covering rough footbed, lots of blowdowns, very grown in in places, etc. Nice later fall foliage from the notch down at least made it bearable. Red Rock is such a nice trail and peak - can't help but wonder if there's a better way to get to it than via Miles Notch Trail (but Miles Notch itself was very neat). Other than Miles Notch Trail, a very spectacular loop/traverse.
