Saw a number of dogs on the trail - leashes required in the park. Cadillac West Face trail may pose some challenges there are a few ledges where you'll need to help canines up or down. Decided to head up to Acadia for late summer hiking and was met by great weather though a bit windy up on the summits. I decided to string together a number of summits - started at Sieur de Monts spring and traversed to Jordan Pond over three summits.
Note: ANP is changing trail names back to their original historic names so many maps are now out of date. Emery Path/Schiff Path (prior - Dorr Mountain East Face Trail) - ANP is doing a lot of trail work. There are places where you'll need to climb over or around piles of rocks that will form new steps. They have also run a number of cables and ropes in places that you will need to duck under and step over so keep an eye out. You may also be asked to wait for up to 10 minutes while crews are working. Running water and a few fairly deep puddles on the trail above the ladder trail junction. Cadillac West Face - this is one of the steeper trails in ANP - I took it down to link over to the trail up Pemetic. You are crossing a lot of ledges and places where you'll need to scramble. On this day there was a lot of running water on ledges almost all the way down the trail - in some places the rock was quite slick so watch your step. Other than that trails were all generally dry with occasional mud or running water and of course in great shape. |
