Bear Mtn. (north of Gilead)
Starting at the boulders I headed up the road until it seemed to cut too far west. From there, I bushwhacked up the drainage, having some trouble finding good going due to low growth in logged areas. I ended up hitting the sub-peak to the south, and some thick going. The main peak is a bit of a push from the sub. Lots of thick twiggy stuff.
The summit is amazing with fine views of the Mahoosucs and beyond. The log book was quite wet, but the jar did not seem bad. This summit could use paper, pencil, and a new bag, at the very least. Unfortunately, I did not bring canister supplies this time. |
