 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
parked at end of Caribou Valley Road, bridges on the way in weren't too bad, my focus and a Prius made it. The road is rutted but dry, one bridge has a good hole in it, easy enough to go around. Two divers that finished their hike Saturday night, re-secured some boards on their way out. |

AT North from CVR, bushwhack, Old Boundary Trail, Herd Path
Up to Maine for the weekend, these three were our first peaks to bag. Decided to use CVR as to camp and head out from the same location the next day. The Crockers are short and straight forward to find. There are lots of herd paths at the summit of South Crocker but very good signage in Maine overall. Heading back into the col between Crocker's we decided to bushwhack in the general direction of Reddington, then we hit a yellow blazed trail. Other hikers later told us this was the old boundary line trail, it is no longer maintained but we were in no way the only one's to land on it. We followed this back 90% of the way to South Crocker and then found a very hard to miss herd path to Reddington. It takes a left and then another right at a wide swath (new boundary line trail?) There is flagging, cairns, arrows, etc. This is a hard peak to miss. Back to South Crocker and down again. Day one complete. |
