 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
There is now a parking lot next to the Stuart Gross Path trailhead, eliminating the road walk described in the Maine Mountain Guide. It also appears the lot was plowed. |

Great Pond Mountain in the Wildlands in Orland.
Stuart Gross Trail was recently relocated and generally had a dusting of snow on it.
Mountain Trail was also generally snow free, but there were a few sections with blue and black ice from run off freezing. I barebooted with care on the way up and resorted to Microspikes for the icy sections on the way down.
I found the upper elevations a little difficult to navigate, as the trail reaches wide open ledges. I found my way to the summit and then back via memory, but it could be easy to get lost. Fantastic views from the near-summit ledges though. |
