Wet, heavy leaves made the first 1.1 mi before the Eyebrow Trail junction very slippery, even on descent in the afternoon when they previous evening's rains had dried a bit. Blustery but the clouds cleared a bit so we could catch some great views at the top.
Not sure how I missed this in the guidebooks but the observation tower is accessed by a vertical metal ladder with about 20-25 rungs, climbing straight up, hand over hand. Not for the faint of heart in a strong wind and luckily no ice or water on it today. One of our 20-year old autistic twin sons couldn't tolerate it, but the other guy surprised me and shimmered right up. Progress is measured in moments like these. |
