 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Finding the trail was the hardest part. Directions and maps are pretty poor in the AMC guide. It makes it look and sound like there's only one main road but it branches off a lot and the smallest one after not one but two bridges was actually the right one. |

Beautiful day for a hike on the weekend of two of our 33rd birthdays. Lots of sunshine with some puffy clouds and fairly strong (20-30mph?) steady winds above treeline. The trail is a real mess with dozens of blowdowns from 2 inch ones to whole treetops. Bugs were bad but only at the places mentioned and only when we stopped. Got some good scrapes going over and under some of the blowdowns. Just a few hundred yards of monorail with minor postholing right below treeline, otherwise the snow is gone at last.
Great hike and we got some great food and beers at the Liberal Cup in Hallowell. Thanks to the gentleman who reccomended it to us while hiking, we feel bad that we didn't think to offer to buy you a beer when we saw you later on. Everything was great and we'll definitely be back soon and often. The Bug Zapper Super Lager was the favorite of the bunch. If we see you again we owe you one. Thanks again! |
