Comments: Dedham Bald Mountain
The mountain is a smooth, round granite dome with a fragile veneer of vegetation. The trail (unmarked but obvious) is an old road leading to a cluster of communications towers on the partly wooded summit. The road is worn right down to the granite for its entire length--essentially a solid stone surface 20' wide by 0.5 miles long and steep. There is a network of bootleg hiking trails around the greater summit that lead to various ledges and are worth exploring. Views are excellent, most of them do not include the communications masts. Contrary to DeLorme, the fire tower is gone. The summit is fairly clean of trash despite obvious 4WD access and multiple fire rings on ledges. It's a rewarding, quick hike.
