Parked at a well cleared area on the right,at the junction of Elephant Mountain Rd,about 10 miles south of Andover. This old logging road was not plowed, with about 2 feet of snow and snow depths reached around 4 ft as we moved up the mountain. Follow this road for about 1 mile. Stay straight, leaving Elephant Mountain Rd and follow the old AT trail for another 1/2 mile. Then head into the woods on an old logging raod, drainage. continue at about 50 degree north, staying in hardwood forest, crossing the Elephant Mountain Rd. You will continue to climb through open woods, many herd paths and clearings until reaching about 2800 ft. where you will encounter thick spruce waves. The climb becomes steep with several moree thick stunted spruce, pushing through until reaching the summit. |
