Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, April 22, 2010
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at Baldface Circle lot - some recent logging next to the parking lot suggests they might be expanding it? Restrooms closed. Deer Hill Road closed/gated about 3/4 mile in.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Cold River dam crossing no problem today. Other crossings were minor and rock hopped, though the col creek crossing on the Deer Hill Bypass was tricky because of a bunch of blowdowns around/on it.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Deer Hills Trail in decent shape - a few minor blowdowns. South of there, some blowdowns, especially on Deer Hill Bypass. Chainsaw might be necessary for a few. Missing sign at trailhead, as well as Deer Hill Bypass junction just after dam.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs may be hesitant to cross the dam.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies out, but didn't appear to be biting.

Comments
Comments: Despite passing showers earlier in the day, trails were in decent shape. Ascended via Deer Hills Trail, descended via the bypass. In hindsight, I would have done the opposite, as the lower ledges on the Deer Hill Bypass were slippery. Nice variety of wildflowers, including red trillium, bellwort, trailing arbutus, yellow violet, and hobblebush.
