Comments
Comments: A cold day up in Acadia but a great hike. Decided to make a long loop over Sargent using carriage roads. Started with 2+ mile hike on carriage road - hard packed so boots are fine, Sargent northwest trail snow with a breakable crust, snowshoes worked well though trail was well cratered by those in boots. Up top and across south ridge trail - mix of ice, ice covered rocks and windblown snow - traction or snowshoes a must up top; Hadlock Brook set up well for snowshoeing, hard snow surface kept them gripping nicely; met the only hikers of the day and their lab heading up as I was heading down. Started out in the clouds but the skies turned too blue skies over Penobscot bay and the other peaks, amazing views one of my best treks in Acadia ever!
