 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking for a couple of cars at the intersection just off Deer Hill Road, as described in the AMC Guide. I had it to myself. |
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
 | Recommended Equipment: |
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Beavers have flooded about a quarter-mile section of the south loop of the Conant Trail, before the turn east heading up to Pine Hill. |
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The south loop is offically closed, I believe, because of that flooding, but as mentioned in the AMC Guide, you can bypass it by a bushwhack to the left (east). That took me a third of a mile and was wet and rather tedious, due to some sections with prickers.
Otherwise, the south loop was in good shape for a "closed" Trail. Some Conant Trail junctions lack signs, so it is prudent to pay attention to the Trail Map. |
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
I wouldn't take a dog on the bushwhack. |
 | Bugs: |
None. I bet there were plenty in the early summer. |
 | Lost and Found: |

 | Comments: |
The ledge on the west edge of the Pine Hill summit plateau has better views than the summit.
A couple of mineralogists were in action at the old Mine - the only people I saw on this hike. |
