after a few days in the clouds at Carrabassett Valley it was nice to start off with blue skies and beautiful fresh air. Due to some time constraints and elevated water levels we opted for out and back of the "S" peaks. Followed Tote Road most of the ascent with some diversions along the ridge to enjoy the far ranging views, Windy and cold on summit..took shelter behind one of the buildings there. A bit of a rough descent to the AT where good footing most of the way had us quickly over to the Spaulding Spur. Pleased to see a couple of fine outlooks cut out since my last visit there. We lingered a bit and had lunch up there which while windy was quite pleasant. Ran into a few folks on the trip back over. Re ascent to the summit of Sugarloaf was fine..tried Timberline for descent but it was quite brushy so we switched back over to Tote Road which was fine . Pretty cold and breezy on the ridges today..a real touch of fall in the air. Great to be out with Tim and Valerie |
