 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Room for one to two cars of a group at the gate and another in a small clear area off the Rt. 2 shoulder and the FR 711 road. There is a sign up at the gate that is visible on Rt. 2 although vegetation partially hides it; I missed it going east even using the AMC Guide milage (2.3) from Rt. 113, but looking closely saw it on the return drive. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail in pretty good shape in most places. Down low it was a nice ex-primary haul road that had been closed out properly with nice road waterbars. In the next section a secondary road had become more trail like and was generally in pretty good shape. Highest up, in the most trail like section, there was an occasional mud patch. There are some new paint blazes down low, but above that they are old and pretty rare. There are two more signs for the trail where snowmobile trails cross it. After that the trail was pretty easy to follow just by staying on the obvious road low and on light trail wear high. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Pepper had fun; there were plenty of sip n dip streams, a few chippies to chase, the requisite treats, and no sun/shade. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Some skeeters, black flies and a deer fly or two. By moving at a good clip and swatting those that have landed, they weren't bad. |

The day had been set aside for some 4Ks, but when that wasn't needed and the forecast was for rain showers, I told Pepper around Lincoln we'd just redline this piece of trail and find something else to do that would be fun. Even though we did this trail in light rain at the end of the day after hiking other trails, I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's a nice woods walk. It goes along and often crosses Wheeler Brook, which is nice for Pepper. There is a nice sluice section part way up that must be special in high water. The slopes are modest, the footbed is mostly nice, the path mostly wide and there's plenty of solitude. No vistas but we got them on the other hikes. It rained the whole way home, including a few brief downpours. |
