Comments: A two man Border Patrol (Encounter #2) woke us at 5:45am to confirm our identities (ran the SUV plate check) and yesterday's route. A game warden had discovered out tracks and camp, calling them. Encounter #1 hadn't been reported, so us being so close to the border was new and of interest. They specifically inquired if we'd crossed into Canada to summit Mt. Gosford...a Big No No. They were going to check our track. With 6 inches of snow overnight, that meant just looking for a snowshoe cut on the Canada side of the swath. Two hours later (Encounter #3) they returned as we were leaving, confirmed we hadn't gone to Canada, took our photos and chatted about hiking, etc. Another two hours and the District Supervisor and yet another patrolman ride up to chat (Encounter #4), the Super wanting to see who was in the woods and confirm that one was indeed a senior citizen :) He invited all hikers to call the Patrol anytime for road conditions and logging status. Nice guy.

Then the drive around to Chain of Ponds Snow. Snowmobile track from 3 mile mark to trail to the Pond, then broke trail in 6" powder to logging road and up to trail. This was Pat Cushing's and my WINTER NEW ENGLAND HUNDRED HIGHEST FINISH! Thanks Pat! More on VFTT (Pat is Bombadil).

And Sunday on Mossilauke Pat will complete the "SINGLE SEASON" WINTER HUNDRED HIGHEST.....the first ever?
