Comments
Comments: Party of four. Williams Pond Rd had a nice snowmobile track laid by park rangers hauling lumber loads to Center Pond. Rangers were staying at Nesowadnehunk and one visited us the first night at our cabin for a chat. The recent thaw-freeze cycle had firmed up the snowpack, on and off trail. The last party had signed in Jan 7th, but there was a decent footbed under about 6" of new overnight snow at the trailhead increasing to 8-10" on the saddle. The turn to N. Brother from the saddle was unmarked, but we found it quickly. Winds increased steadily through the morning as the cold front moved in. By the time we cleared the scrub on the ascent visibility was 50-75 feet and winds were 40-ish, making it difficult to stand erect, plus gusts and blowing sleet/graupel which added to the fun of it. Two minutes on the summit and we gave up any thought of Fort. On the descent we found and dug out the Mt. Coe Trail junction sign post. Mike L. got his 65th W67, and at the cabin we celebrated Elizabeth completing her all-season 67 and my W67. Saw two bald eagles soaring low in blue skies over Williams Pond Rd on the hike out.
