Comments
Comments: A great loop hike - Weather back to almost summer, packed way too much thinking temps would at least be mild up high but they were in the 70's on the summit; many people peeling off layers today. Been a while since I've been up here last time up the old trail - the new Orange trail is a great improvement over the old trail - nice and easy on switchbacks up; up higher you connect back to the old trail (they are still working on the relocation up high- nice sign pointing out); where you jump back on the old orange trail you hit running water on rocks, not too slick but a few puddles you'll need to rock hop over and it will ice over seriously once temps drop.

Great views on the ledges up high. Starr trail leaves the orange trail at a cairn just before you hit the open ledges - no sign and a narrow trail so keep your eye out if you want to head down this trail. You'll find the steepest sections of the day on Starr; a steep pitch on ledges and then another steep section in the trees both heading straight down but good footing. Hitting the logging road heading down there is a lot of mud cleverly hidden under leaves where it was hard to keep out of the mud - until the trail routes off the road to a drier stretch - it jumps back on logging road in a much drier condition. Connector back to orange is down a ladder and across a bridge (otherwise about a 100 yard road walk back to parking lot).

Great day all around, warm, views were a bit hazy but still expansive. Numerous people on the trails today. Definitely a recommended hike.
