Trails were mostly dry. Summit of Chickatawbut is fenced off...the gate at the top of the road was open, but the No Trepassing signs deterred me. Too bad, as it looked like there were some nice observation decks. Found some nice ledge views off the Skyline Trail on the southeast side.
A little rugged on the Skyline Trail from there to Route 28 (scrambly ledges), then fun crossing a 50MPH highway, then a somewhat steep climb up to Buck Hill. Buck Hill remains my favorite peak in the reservation, with less crowds than Blue Hill and excellent views in all directions thanks to minimal vegetation on the summit. |
