Took the short way (through trees near park office buildings then logging road) up to summit then returned the same way today, not the usual full clockwise loop which saw minimal traffic and did not appear to be well broken out yet. Solid trench from recent traffic but not firmly consolidated snow, so snowshoes are the only option. Trees gave nice cover from winds. Passed a father and child skiing down the logging road and two sets of dog walkers. The NE Trail section headed south beyond the summit showed old tracks but not well broken.
We were too lazy to doff the snowshoes and climb the icy steps of the fire tower, but today’s mostly clear skies did provide a few views near the picnic table.
Always a favorite little hike. |
