A very nice day on Wachusett. All trails were hard packed snow that was deep enough that putting spikes on rock could easily be avoided. I used Hillsound spikes, but bare boots would have worked also, although the effort would have been greater without traction due to foot slippage. Of course t his report will be rendered moot by tomorrow afternoon, first with the above freezing temperatures coming in, and then followed by rain in a couple more days. But trail conditions will probably still be good through tomorrow morning--so get it while you can. |
