| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
No parking at the jct of Plum Island Turnpike and Northern and Southern boulevards. Resident parking only at the beach. We parked 0.2mi to the west where Sunset Drive crosses Plum Island Turnpike and becomes Old Point Rd to the north. One other car there. We spotted my car at the Prospect Hill parking area where there's room for probably half a dozen plus cars. I was the only one there. |

The BCT is marked with its usual markings. As usual, in some sections it's marked relatively well and is easy to follow and in others it is not. Parts of the trail that coincide with other trails may have been marked differently but I believe the BCT blazed were always there.
Second hike of the day after Baker's Meadow Reservation. From the jct of Plum Island Turnpike, I hiked a 0.2mi OAB to the beach (resident parking only here), then continued along the BCT along the road. My parents, who gave me a car spot, had wanted to do part of the hike with me and new it would involve a road walk on a road that is by no means a back road but upon seeing just how busy it was (and some bridge construction) they chose to turn around. Personally, I found the road walk sections of this hike very enjoyable on the whole as I have throughout much of the BCT. Old Town Hill was cool too. Trails were dry. The BCT can be challenging to map out so please do not hesitate to reach out if you'd like a GPS track. Note that there is no official start sign for the BCT but there is one on a telephone pole just west of the beach. Also, the guidebook describes how to get from a parking lot at the northern tip of the island to the start of the trail but does not give a distance and it's not part of the BCT so I do not feel it's needed for redlining. Gaia had me at 12.2mi, 250ft of gain, 4hrs but this was without the first 0.6mi recorded. |
