No tracks on the long loop since recent snows so this was trail breaking day. We followed some foot prints on Round the Mountain Trail, and halfway up the NET. They seem to disappear on the steeps and with about 6 to 8 inches of a crusted l-over snow base, We definitely got a workout the last half mile. On the logging road back to Ohlson Field, some Jeep tracks allows the 3 spike-wearers in our party to descend easily. Me, with snowshoes on car to car, I found the tracks to be kind of annyoying, but descent was fast and manageable. Foggy and gray at the top, and we could barely see the cell tower on the next hill, so we did not climb the tower.
While Tuesday snowstorm will change everything, but for now, I personally recommend snowshoes. I did my best to tramp down my spiker-family’s tracks to make them nice and flat. Today’s crust did make most of the walk spikeable but snowshoes gave better grip and flotation esp on the New England Tr. |
