Comments: Negus Mtn from Zoar Gap
My first hike in MA in 10 years (hiked Greylock in 2004. TO get to the trail, park your car in the lot, walk to the railroad, cross it, and you should see the trailhead on the other side.

The trail doesn't screw around. It's pretty darn steep, especially up to the first major bump. A little bit of scrambling involved. The ground was bare, except for some very inopportune ice. (Coming back involved sliding on my butt). After the first bump the trail continues up, relentlessly till a point that appears to be the summit, but really isnt. Views pretty much the whole way, into Berkshire county, Zoar Gap, Mt Greylock.

The true summit is another 1/4 mile (or so) away. The openness of the trail ended and I walked thru some hardwoods to the summit cone....little bit of bulletproof snow thru here. The true summit is prob a couple hundred yards off trail. No views from the summit, but nice views to Greylock nearby along the trail.

If you are in the area, hike this peak!!
