Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: First part of trail is flooded. You can mostly avoid it by walking on the sides of the trail to an extent: one section was a small lake. We opted to bushwhack for 10 ten minutes through the mountain laurel and rhododendrons. The trail splits, and the flowing river goes to the right while the trail proper heads (dryly) up to the left. From that point, the trails are dry and nice. All of the scrambles were dry. The South Taconic trail is a beautiful trail between Alander mountain and South Brace.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Took our Akita along for this trip. Aside for being totally exhausted by the end, she had a wonderful day. Take plenty of water as there isn't a drop to be had once you get beyond the wet part at the beginning.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: This was a beautiful day to be out. We had to bushwhack to avoid substantial water at the beginning of the trail. Dog and wife had no problem with any of the scrambles up Round and Frissel. As we ate lunch on Frissel's summit, we met a few hikers: most going to the tri-state border, but two guys who had started on the far side of Bear mountain (they caught up to us later on their 14th mile). View from South Brace is well worth the trip - don't just stop at the tri-state border.

This is a great hike. There's something to see every half-mile or so, therefore it doesn't ever get boring. Bushwhacking, peakbagging, scrambling, and open summits: this is a great hike!
