Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We spotted a car at the First Baptist Church in West Sutton. No other cars there. Left other car on Southwest Main Street across from High Street. One other car when we got there. One car (different one) when we got back. Room for lots of cars there.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing difficult.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good shape for early in the season. Crossing at the first railroad bed that in past years has been constantly flooded and hard to cross has been rectified by their filling the bed with gravel and crushed rock. Not wet anymore.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Barkers and yappers in the yards and houses that are on Northwest Main St Douglas, where the trail goes behind those houses. No loose dogs though.
Bugs
Bugs: As the day warmed up towards the end of our trip we started to see a few black flies, but none were hungry yet.

Comments
Comments: Kergama and I did a section of the Midstate, northbound, from southern terminus to Central Turnpike. Book says it is 11.4 miles. That plus the 1.5 or so approach from where we parked. Kergama kept a brisk pace and we did the 11.4 in 4 1/4 hours. My knee and his hip are now paying for it; too early in the year for our old joints. Other than a couple of ladies at Rt 16 who looked like they were fixin' to do a little walk on the trail we had the trail to ourselves. Kergama needs a new nickname.
