| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking area and kiosk on Wheelerville Road in Mendon, 4 mi. in from US 4. About half a dozen cars when I arrived at 8am, overflowing when I returned at 1:45pm. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
No issues. Larger crossings are done so on wooden footbridges. Other crossings are minor drainages. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I removed one minor leaner on BT. About 1.8 mi. in from the trailhead is a thigh-high large blowdown that requires a hop over. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Sure, I saw a couple. There is a pretty good water supply along this route at the moment. The last water is at the Cooper Lodge spring. |
|
| Bugs: |
Not too bad, just a few deer flies. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Nothing. |

| Comments: |
Trails were damp from overnight / morning rain, with some slick rocks. A few muddy sections along BT, but nothing major. Things were drying out on the descent.
Bucklin is an easy trail overall, following an old carriage road for most of the first two miles, with very easy / flat grades and excellent footing. It was interesting to see the various spots where the current trail corridor departed and rejoined the old road. The moderate climbing starts once the trail leaves the road and ascends to the ridge. Once above Cooper Lodge, the spur trail to the summit gets a bit crazy, being very rocky, extremely steep and straight up for a quarter mile.
Better weather than what was forecast, though hazy due to the high humidity. Lots of people popping up to the summit from the top of the gondola. Sad to see Cooper Lodge in such a sorry state of deterioration. :( |
