Comments
Comments: Patchy ice on the Long Trail. By noon, some ice had turned into running water on the lower section of this trail.

Minimal snow on the ski trails by the summit, bare rocks and grass in places. Snow making in progress further down the mountain though. The views from Jay Peak are absolutely fantastic!

There's a hands-and-knees-crawl-under blow down at the start of the Big Jay herd path, followed quickly by two recent, decent blow downs to navigate around. Otherwise, the herd path is quite nice, generally easy to follow with some brush to push through here and there. The infamous mud bogs were frozen. Yay!

We found a short glass jar and notebook with many blank pages at the summit of Big Jay. No writing utensil in the jar though. If you wish to sign the notebook, bring your own pen (we forgot) or better yet, a short, 3 to 4" pencil to donate to the cause. Anything longer won't fit in the jar.

~6 miles round trip. With footprints to follow and moving at a steady pace to stay warm, the Big Jay herdpath took us ~1 hr out and ~50 min back. No time needed to whack around the mud bogs.
