Brook running high but don't have to cross unless using Ridge Tr.. Several water bars melted out requiring a short hop. Looked like hiker had fallen through to 6-10" water spot in runoff while seeking an easier spot to cross. |

Snowshoes used Saturday with the warm temps. 16 hikers met; 16 barebooters (2 carrying shoes in their hands ??) Needless to say some postholes encountered on Sundays hike. Sunday firm enough for light traction but a very narrow monorail (6" or less in spots) in between 1-3 foot postholes on each side. Would've been more awkward with snowshoes. Great job by the two gals threading a path up higher through this avoiding these holes. Apologies to anyone using my reports as I haven't submitted NH hikes since Jan. 2 but I dislike submitting negative stuff such as this. Hopefully back submitting in March. From reports I've been seeing here and elsewhere I wonder what conditions would encourage snowshoe use--85" snow storm with 75 degree weather following. Time for me to stop whining and thank you to those out there breaking trail and submitting the very helpful reports afterwards for others. See you on the trails!! |
